KnowLimit keeps a simple, accurate record of what you log. No accounts. No predictions. Just your own data, available across your Apple devices.

One-tap drink log

Tap once to log a beer, glass of wine, shot, or mixed drink. Pick a preset or set your own volume and ABV.

Daily count and totals

See how many drinks you've logged tonight and your standard-drinks total using the NIAAA definition: one standard drink equals 14 grams of pure alcohol.

Patterns over time

Apple Health, opt-in

Get home easily

One-tap deep links to Uber, Lyft, and an optional emergency contact you can call from inside the app.

What it does

A focused journal. Nothing more.

KnowLimit does one thing well: it logs what you drink and shows you your patterns.

The journal

  • Logs the drinks you choose to record
  • Counts your drinks for the day
  • Totals standard drinks using the NIAAA definition (14 g of pure alcohol per standard drink)
  • Shows your patterns across days, weeks, and months
  • Writes your standard-drinks count to Apple Health using Apple's numberOfAlcoholicBeverages data type, if you opt in
  • Lets you call an emergency contact or open Uber or Lyft from inside the app

The principles

  • No account, email, or sign-in
  • No third-party SDKs, analytics, advertising, or trackers
  • Your log lives on your device in Apple's SwiftData
  • You own the data and you can delete it at any time
  • Optional Apple Health write uses Apple's own alcohol data type
  • Optional emergency contact is stored on device only

Three steps. That's the app.

No setup wizard, no profile required.

1

Log a drink

Tap the plus button or say a Siri shortcut. Pick a preset like beer, wine, or shot. Done.

Help and how-tos.

Short walkthroughs for the things people ask about most.

How to log a drink

On the Today view, tap the plus button in the tab bar. Choose a preset (beer, wine, shot, mixed) or tap Custom to set your own volume and ABV. Your daily count and standard-drinks total update right away.

How to add an emergency contact

Open the Profile tab. Tap "Emergency contact" and enter a name and phone number, or pick from your contacts when prompted. The contact lives on your device and is used only when you tap to call them from inside the App.

How to enable the Siri shortcuts

The App ships with four shortcuts: Log Drink, How Many Tonight, Log Water, and When Did I Last Log A Drink. Open the Shortcuts app, find KnowLimit under Apps, and add the shortcuts you want. You can rename any phrase to match how you speak.

How to grant Apple Health permission

The first time you tap a Health-related option, iOS will ask which categories to allow. KnowLimit asks to read hydration and to write standard drinks and water. You can change these later in the Health app under Sources, or in iOS Settings under Privacy and Security.

How to delete all your data

Open the Profile tab and use "Clear history" to remove drink entries, and "Remove emergency contact" to clear that field. To remove entries the App has written to Apple Health, open the Health app, tap Sources, choose KnowLimit, and delete from there. Deleting the App removes everything stored locally.

How to add the widget or Live Activity

Long-press the Home Screen, tap the plus, search "KnowLimit," and pick small, medium, or large. The Live Activity appears automatically on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island after you log a drink.

Frequently asked

Frequently asked questions.

What is a standard drink?

KnowLimit uses the NIAAA standard: one standard drink contains roughly 14 grams of pure alcohol. That is about 12 oz of regular beer at 5% ABV, 5 oz of wine at 12% ABV, or 1.5 oz of distilled spirits at 40% ABV. The App computes standard drinks from the volume and ABV of each entry you log.

Does KnowLimit need an account?

No. There is nothing to sign up for. There is no cloud account behind the App. Your data lives in an on-device SwiftData store and never leaves your phone unless you choose to share it via Apple Health or by exporting it manually.

Does the App work on Apple Watch?

Yes. KnowLimit ships with a full Apple Watch companion app. You can log a drink, log water, or check tonight's count from your wrist.

Does the App share my data with anyone?

No. The App contains no third-party SDKs, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. The only data that ever leaves your device is data you choose to write to Apple Health, which Apple manages under your control.

What happens when I tap Uber, Lyft, or call my emergency contact?

The App opens the relevant app on your device using a standard deep link. The destination app then handles your request under its own privacy policy. KnowLimit does not pass any information about your drink log through these links.

How much does KnowLimit cost?

KnowLimit is a single, clean app. Pricing is shown on the App Store listing. There is no advertising inside the App.
